AYURVEDIC KITCHARI RECIPE
With all of the change & lack of predictability in the world, observing nature’s rhythms & cycles is reassuring. Night turns to day, summer turns to fall, winter turns to spring.

Each change of season is an opportunity for the body to release, reset & replenish. Explore Improving energy & vitality, clearing toxic buildup & regulating digestion with a 1-3 day monodiet kitchari cleanse.

Kitchari is Ayurveda’s favorite cleansing food. it’s a complete protein, grounding, easy to digest & fires up agni (metabolism).

When our agni is strong our digestion is strong. We can assimilate nutrients easily & eliminate what isn’t needed more efficiently.

In Ayurveda digestion refers to more than what we digest with our stomachs. Anything we take in with our senses also needs to be digested: what we see, what we hear, even what we think.

After a kitcheri cleanse, with our agni restored, the body can more readily resist illness. The mind is noticeably more clear & emotions balance & flow more smoothly.

While I love how energized & clear I feel drinking green juices, these are specifically recommended for spring, summer & tropical climates as they can aggravate vata (the wind & ether elements) which are already high in the autumn & winter. When Vata is too high immunity suffers & we can feel worried or ungrounded.

In the Ayurvedic tradition, kitchari is an appropriate dish for any season.

To pacify kapha or support weight loss, half or eliminate the basmati rice.
To pacify vata add 1 or 2 tablespoons of ghee (or avocado oil if you’re vegan) to each serving.

Eat as much kitchari as you like, knowing your cells are being nourished & reharmonized. Still, it is a cleanse so is best done at a weekend or when your schedule is light.
